A few days ago I decided that I wanted to get a bracelet with a motivational running quote to wear while I finish up training and run the Philadelphia Marathon. I looked around online to try to decide on a quote that would sum up what I would want to think to myself during those runs.
As I was looking around, I came across some other quotes that I thought I would share (click image for source):
I think I decided on “RUN STRONG”.
I feel like “Run Strong” really sums up how I want to run that day. It’s all relative, of course. I want to run as strong as my legs will let me on that day. I want my mind to stay strong and not let me give up when it gets hard. I want my body and heart to stay strong throughout the race and the rest of my training.
I’m thinking of getting the Words To Sweat By bracelet but still haven’t decided for sure. Anyone have any recommendations?
What is your favorite motivational running quote?
Do you have anything motivational that you bring with you while you run?

That’s a great idea! I need to think of a quote for myself!

I never really think about inspirational quotes when I run but lately I have tried it and it helps more than I thought it would!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I have more of a motivational chant than just quotes, but it is simply to keep on going. Start to finish, never quit.
Also, Shut. Up. Legs.

Chants work just as well as quotes, if not better. Sometimes you just need to talk to yourself or at least distract yourself from the negative thoughts!

That is a great idea!
In Portland I set the lock screen on my phone to an image with the quote “you body won’t go where you mind doesn’t push it” and every time I hit a low spot I would pull out my phone and look at it.
I also have a bracelet similar to the one you’re thinking about getting that just says “50” on it – I wear it sometimes as a reminder that I am on my journey towards a 50-miler and that I won’t give up until I get there!
Kristina says
Obviously I meant “your body won’t go where your mind doesn’t push it” — too early, need more coffee 🙂

Honestly I didn’t even catch it until you pointed it out:)

I love quotes about the mind over the body! and I love the idea of having your goal somewhere that you can see it while you run!

That’s such a great idea!

I did a post last year (I think last year, maybe it was a few months ago lol) with a giveaway for Momentum which is bracelets and shoe tags containing the motivational running messages. I like my sneaker tags which say RUN FAST. I don’t know that it is motivational but every time I look at them, I am reminded that I can indeed run fast.

I just looked into the Momentum ones and they look really nice! Similar to the ones I had found but maybe a little better quality. I love that your shoes tags say “run fast”.

Love that idea!! Quotes really do a lot for me! I like to memorize little quotes or stick them on my mirror. My fav quote is ,”If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. Hard is what makes it so great.”
Thanks for the great quotes!

I also love that quote! I am never good at thinking about stuff like that when I am running and especially when things get tough so I think it would be really helpful to have it somewhere that I could see it!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Great quotes! I have this one bracelet I like to wear that simply says Run. That pretty much somes it up. Whether your doing it fast or slow at least your doing it and that’s all that matters.

Very nice! And a simple but important reminder!

I have never been much for the motivation/inspiration quote stuff … I find people inspirational. So I am not even sure what I would say …
– Not bad for an old guy … ?
– Keep it up … you don’t want to get fat again … ?
haha 🙂

Yes those quotes seem more your style than anything too sappy/inspirational! (Not to say I agree with those things about you, they just go along with your sense of humor:)) I think a bit of humor would be very helpful when things get tough during a run or race!
Michael Anderson says
Funny thing is when it comes to most things I AM sappy and romantic and inspirational and all of that … maybe it is so many years as a solo non-racing, pre-internet runner … it was always done through self-motivation, no selfies, no blogs, nothing. So as a result I come at it differently than anyone under 40 or so …

I love motivational quotes! My all-time favorite running quote which is actually perfect for any time of physical activity is from General Patton. “Now if you’re going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body is always willing to give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.” Basically, mind over body!

That’s a really great one! Mind over body is such an important concept when it comes to racing!

Great idea…. I don’t know if this is really a quote or more of just a phrase but “Relentless Forward Progress” has always been one of my favorites.

I like that one too! I saw that on some of the websites I was looking at. I like that its pretty short and simple but there is a lot of meaning behind it.
Lily @ Lily Runs the World says
Nice idea! I keep trying to think of a good mantra for when I’m running and it’s tough. I usually stick to “Come on legs, you trained for this” or cursing but those are not very inspiring. “You can do hard things” gives me a nice mental push too.
[email protected] says
Those are great! I mean the cursing might at least make you feel a little better:)

Great idea! Not sure if it can really be called motivational, but I always tell myself I run because I can. When I want to quit or when I feel like I’m dying as I take on a hill, I’ll repeat “yes you can” to myself (sometimes out loud, which is embarassing).
[email protected] says
I think reminding yourself you run because you can is really inspirational! And I’m not judging you for talking to yourself while you run! Whatever helps, right?
Nessa @ Ness Runs says
I use motivational quotes all the time during my hard runs! I really love ‘get comfortable with being uncomfortable’ and ‘I can do hard things’
[email protected] says
Those are really great I heard “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” and I think its so important to remember!
Amber says
I like that one about those who risk going too far find out how far they can go. I’m a wuss – I struggle to push myself further/faster than I think I’m capable of.
Run Strong makes for a pretty good motto though – I like that. It doesn’t even acknowledge weakness, and it’s not a quote about making it through the wall or toughest time. Just be strong 🙂
There are sooo many quotes I apply to running, but one of them I like is “No great thing is created suddenly”. It puts a graphic in my mind of what progress really looks like – that slow, upward-trending, zig-zagging line. It helps me let go of the rough days and races.
[email protected] says
That is a great quote, and so true! It can be difficult to remember but part of becoming a better runner is accepting the process.
Nicole@TheGirlWhoRanEverywhere says
That is an adorable Bracelet!!! And I really like that you are putting “run strong” on it!!! I kind of wanted to make myself more than one just so that I can have all these mantras on my arm, LOL! Great find!

Thanks! I actually found that Momentum jewelry makes similar ones and I liked them a little better, so I went ahead and ordered it today!
